We photographed many birds on our recent trip to Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. On the loop road, we spotted a Bobcat (Lynx rufus) behind a large gate near a maintenance area. Exiting the vehicle very slowly and very quietly, we stayed close to the vehicle and got down low. The Bobcat was curious, and watched us for about a minute before it ran off. Just to see a Bobcat in the open in the wild was a treat. To come face to face with this gorgeous cat (pretty sure it was a female, based on rear-end view), in great morning light and without too much brush obscuring its face, was phenomenal. Our hearts are still pounding. There is some fencing in the background, but we left it alone. No Photoshop here.<br />
