African Wild Dog (aka “Painted Wolf”) (Lycaon pictus) puppy, about 3 months old. Along with 10 of its litter mates, this youngster had only recently emerged from the den. At this age they can begin to keep up with the adults of the pack. An endangered species, there are an estimated 6,000 or so in the wild. We were thrilled to see almost 30 of them in Botswana this year.
