There was an explosion of voles in the Silver Salmon Creek area of Lake Clark National Park this year. This Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) kit was playing with its mother and siblings near their den. We kept our distance from the den and tried to stay patient. That patience was rewarded when this kit bolted down to the creek bank, in the clear and in the good light.
