Black-tailed Prairie Dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) cries out to alert his fellow rodents in the area - a raptor is circling overhead, and this observant individual was the first to spot it. Wind Cave National Park is an excellent place to view Prairie Dogs. There are some very large "towns" (groups of burrows), and a few are relatively close to the road. From those spots, you can observe and photograph these amusing characters without disturbing them. Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota.
