Commotion at the Burrow
All hell broke loose near the prairie dog "town" (a meadow full of their burrows) - two raptors overhead, a coyote prowling the road overlooking their town, and annoying group of feral burros milling about. This little family of Black-tailed Prairie Dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) gathered at the opening of their burrow. Mother is scenting and the others are on high alert. They all scurried underground pretty quickly until the danger passed. Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota.
